The effect of hyperinflation
The main effect of hyperinflation is that consumers struggle in buying what they need. The prices of goods rise continuously, so people do not have enough money to buy the items they would have been able to afford previously. This results in debt, which would be hard to pay off especially if prices continue to rise, or going without, which could cause health issues. There is also the temptation of theft; in desperation some people might be drawn to thievery to support their family. Even for those few people whose salary kept pace with inflation, it was hard to buy the goods. They needed so much money to buy what they needed that they would physically struggle to transport the money to the shop. In some cases of hyperinflation, people had to transport money in wheelbarrows because they needed so many notes for even small items. An example of this was in Germany 1923, where a single loaf of bread eventually cost 200 billion marks. Another result of prices rising all the time was that workers had to get paid twice a day to rush out and buy their goods before prices rose even more. Furthermore, this meant that wages never caught up with the ever-diminishing value of money, and were insufficient to cover the costs. Another important effect of hyperinflation is that people in general struggled with growing shortages. When small items were equal to thousands, or even millions, of notes, foreign suppliers started refusing to accept the hyper-inflated currency. This meant that imports dried up and shortages of food and other goods got worse, for everyone. In addition, savings, insurance policies and pensions became worthless. This mainly affected the middle class, particularly old age pensioners, and widows. For unemployed people relying on savings and pensions, this was devastating and caused many problems. On the other hand, this worked to the advantage of those in debt before the hyperinflation, who would now easily be able to pay them of as the sums involved became worthless. Businesses were greatly affected by hyperinflation as well, for good and bad. Wealthy businessmen would benefit from hyperinflation because property was cheap and with smaller businesses struggling; the bigger, more successful businesses would take over the smaller ones at low cost. . Unfortunately, it didnââ¬â¢t help smaller businesses as much. They had to pay higher wages which they could not afford and had less buying power. They were also in risk of being bought out by the bigger businesses leaving them unemployed. Leading on from this, the workers would struggle too because when the smaller businesses got taken over, they would lose their jobs and then struggle to pay for goods, whilst unemployed. . On some occasions, one result of hyperinflation was that the government printed more money. This made it better to start with, but ultimately made inflation worse and initiated another cycle. As the prices rose, more money was printed, causing prices to rise again. In conclusion, the main effect of hyperinflation was that people struggled with buying what they needed, however there are many other effects that caused shortages and hardship: savings and debts becoming worthless, bigger businesses taking over the smaller ones, leading to unemployment, and the government printing more money. There are lots of effects of hyperinflation, and although it benefited a few people, on the whole, it caused chaos and misery for the people.

The topic relates to everyone because a majority of the general public own operate a computer system that is ran by Microsoft will most likely be interested in upgrading their current system to the newest edition. Target Audience Analysis: What special adaptations for these audience types might be necessary for this presentation to be effective? Technical Personnel Going more in depth over the technical side of the presentation will be key for these audience members because they will want to know how the system work more in depth then say the general public and want to know how it will benefit them to know this new operating system. Non-Technical This would be important to target them in order to show them though they may not be non-technical they can still have an understanding of the system and be user friendly without a vast amount of knowledge. Management Targeting the management level will be important because they will likely beà the ones to push the product out to lower personal and will possibly be the ones to have to train them on it too. Client/Stakeholder You would want to target these people because they will be the ones with money and provide you with the funding needed to push your product. Age/Experience Both age and experience will play a special role into this because the younger crowd will want to have the latest products released in order to be relevant in society. On the other hand experience will play a role because the more experience you have the more you are going to want to have the newest technology if it benefits you. Size Size will be important in the matter of formatting and computer space, you do not want to offer up an operating system that will take up a vast majority of your computer memory system. Physical setting The physical system will not play too much of a role because it is something that the user will not see unless if you are presenting what the software will look like onto a computer. Audience knowledge Presenting to an audience that has a knowledge of understanding of what you are talking about or presenting forces you know what you are presenting to them and may allow you to go into more depth then what you may have presented to someone who may not know as much. Audience interest/focus Keeping the audience focused and locked into what you are saying is important because they will simply lose interest into what you are saying and could potentially lose possible clientele. Attitude toward topic Having a positive attitude of what you are saying is going to keep the interest of the audience because they are going to see that you are actively interested and feed off of your energy and want to learn more. Speaker credibility Being a credible speaker is going to bring more of an audience base because everyone will know that you are positive speaker, know what you are presenting and give out the best information to them. Caporael in her article titled as ââ¬Å"Ergotism: The Satan Loosed in Salem?â⬠states that those girls who resided in the region of Salem wer e acting in abnormal manner because they were experiencing a disease recognized as ergotism (Caporael 1). These girls were experiencing ergotism because they had consumed bread that was affected by a fungus called ergot. The bread they consumed was made out of the rye grains on which the fungus had spread and these grains mostly grow during summers as well as warm springs. The symptoms of the disease called Ergotism are similar to the manner in which the girls who were thought to be under the control of the devil were experiencing. These symptoms includes: experience of something crawling inside the skin, headaches, experience of hallucinations and others. Since the behavior exhibited by the girls is similar to the symptoms experienced by those who experience ergotism, it is plausible that the girls were not under any spell and were experiencing ergotism. Another possible explanation of the events of the Salem Witch Trials has been provided by Mary Beth Norton in her article titled as ââ¬Å"They called it Witchcraftâ⬠(Goss 63). She states that issues experienced by a human in their everyday life are quite commonly associated to witchcraft and similar practices. She further argues that these events are a response to the issue of post traumatic stress disorder experienced by the individuals as they were exposed to the war that took place between the American Indians and the Puritans. This is possibly a rational reason because those who were first held responsible for witchcraft mostly included Indian women including Tituba. Tituba and other American Indians were held responsible because Puritians did not like them due to the war and because the puritans were of the idea that these Indians were people who were chosen by God. The girls who accused Tituba as well as other Indian slaves might be holding a grudge against the Indian because they might be holding them for the death of their loved ones in the war. Another possible reason that can be attributed to the events of Salem Witch Trials is boredom (Roach xxiv). Those who are said to be under the spell were mostly young teenage females who had little or no entertainment and were always practicing religion and were not allowed to experience entertainment because of the rules of the Church. These teenagers might have thought that accusing Indian slaves of indulging in the act of Witchcraft might bring entertainment to their lives and they might become the center of attention of others. Compassion fatigue is defined as emotional, spiritual, and physical exhaustion resulting from ââ¬Å"witnessing and absorbing the problems and suffering of othersâ⬠(Wisniewski, 2013). Compassion fatigue can lead to burnout with oneââ¬â¢s professional career and affect home life. Caregivers can also be affected by compassion fatigue and burnout from the roles that they play with their loved ones. It is vital to be able to identify the warning signs of compassion fatigue and burnout. This is a battle that can be ââ¬Å"fought with a commitment to personal health and well-beingâ⬠(Chapman, 2007). Symptoms can be ââ¬Å"strong feelings of anxiety, difficulty concentrating, being jumpy or easily startled, irritability, difficulty sleeping, excessive emotional numbing, and intrusive images of anotherââ¬â¢s traumatic materialâ⬠(Portnoy, 2011). These symptoms need to be recognized to receive help or they can progres s to long-term effects andà complications. There are five concepts of compassion fatigue that need to be addressed to help with prevention and burnout. The first concept is cognitive; symptoms can be apathy, disorientation, trouble concentration, and harshness. The second concept is emotional; signs can be anxiety, fear, helplessness, feelings of powerlessness, depression, having bad dreams, and shock. The third concept is behavioral which can be lack of sleep, moody, change in appetite, withdrawn, and repeatedly having bad dreams. The fourth concept is spiritual. This area can lead the individual to question their role in life and their profession, feelings of being lost, and questioning faith and personal beliefs. The last concept is somatic, meaning affecting oneââ¬â¢s voluntary nervous system. This can cause rapid heartbeats, trouble breathing, headaches, aches and pains, trouble staying or falling asleep, and sweating (Portnoy, 2011). There are numerous factors that can lead up to and cause compassion fatigue. Triggers can be issues with management such as nursing acuity, patient to nurse ratios, overworked nurses, personal issues, lack of support from coworkers or bosses, and loss of the feeling that the nurse is making a difference. To combat these factors in nurses and other employees in health care, managers and organizations need to be aware of this dynamic issue and offer help (Portnoy, 2011). Creating an open environment along with education and training on how to deal with these complex issues is the first step to addressing compassion fatigue within the workplace. Group meetings within the workplace will offer the nurses a chance to share their thoughts and feelings, realizing that they are not alone. Building bonds with coworkers and sharing patient experiences will help to encourage positive healthy habits. Self-care is vital for nurses to maintain to keep life in balance and to adequately take proper care of our patients. Everybody has stress, learning how to deal with it is the key to happiness and a healthy well-being. Nurses are constantly educating our patientââ¬â¢s on lifestyle changes needed to maintain health such as a proper diet, exercise, and a strong support system. We in turn need to practice what we preach and maintain our health to be at our best to help our patients achieve their best. Burnout and compassion fatigue are sometimes talked about as one, but there are differences. Burnout is ââ¬Å"state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stressâ⬠(Preventing Burnout, n.d.). Signs of burnout can be depression orà detachment, emotions are rigid, loss of hope and motivation, and a feeling of not worthy of living. Burnout can be caused by lifestyles or work-related issues. Working in an environment that you feel like you have no control or lack of resources can lead to burnout. Self-care is needed to maintain positive outlets to express oneââ¬â¢s stress to avoid burnout in oneââ¬â¢s personal life. There are physical, emotional, and behavioral signs of burnout. Physical signs are feelings of being tired all the time, being sick a lot, change in sleeping habits, body aches, and frequent headaches. Emotional signs can be loss of motivation, feelings of helplessness, feelings of detachment, sense of doubt, and an increased negative outlook in life. Behavioral signs can be isolation from others, avoidance of responsibilities, drug or alcohol abuse, missing work, and anger directed at others (Preventing Burnout, n.d.). There are several ways to help prevent burnout. Learning how to manage stress and adopting a positive healthy eating, sleeping, and exercising habits are good examples to start with. It is important to know when you need help and that it is available. Burnout can lead to compassion fatigue within your professional career. Nurses who are tired, overworked, and stress out over time without help can suffer from burnout and in turn fall into compassion fatigue. Nurses need compassion to help guide patients in their medical situations, if the nurse is stressed out and needing help herself then how can she guide the patient? Burnout can be healed, addressing the issues and finding ââ¬Å"your balance by reassessing priorities, making time for yourself, and seeking supportâ⬠(Preventing Burnout, n.d.). There is a three ââ¬Å"Râ⬠approach when dealing with burnout; recognize, reverse, and resilience. Recognition of burnout, reversal of the damage caused from stress, and building resilience to deal with the stress by taking care of oneââ¬â¢s emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual health. Identification is one step into addressing compassion fatigue and burnout. One can recover from burnout. There are three strategies that one should remain mindful of, slow down, get support, and reevaluate your goals and priorities (Preventing Burnout, n.d.). When dealing with job burnout there are a few options that you can do to improve the circumstances. Taking time off, asking for a new assignment, speaking with management about issues, and clarifying your job duties are a few suggestions to start with. Caregiver burnout can happen to anyone at anyà given time. The roles of caregivers are equally important like that of nursing. Caregivers are responsible for the direct care of a loved one and can experience compassion fatigue as well as burnout. Being involved with a loved oneââ¬â¢s care can cause physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual distress. The health of the caregivers is important for the success of the one who is receiving the care. Promoting policies and interventions that will help the caregivers to avoid emotional exhaustion is the goal. Caregivers need to remain aware of their needs and beliefs and know when to ask for help should they need it. Education is the start to helping patients, families, and caregivers; talking about compassion fatigue and burnout allows people to see that they are not alone and that help is available. There are numerous resources available to assist those seeking help such as The Gift from Within organization that specializes in helping people deal with trauma and stress. There is also a Compassion Fatigue organization that aims at educating people on how important self-care is and how vital it is to know the signs and symptoms (Portnoy, 2011). In conclusion, compassion fatigue is the loss of self and burnout is the emotional exhaustion that one can feel. Nurses and health care professionals are at higher risks of having these issues come up; however caregivers can suffer from these issues just as easily. The goal to combating these topics is to bring awareness to them and to continue educating people on the ways to handle them. Sometimes asking for help is hard, but it is the first step in the right direction to becoming a healthy well-being who can handle stress. Seeking guidance from professionals will benefit the person in distress as well as their families. The only way the company can maximise its profit is by cutting down on the cost of production of the article as the option of providing the same quality at an increased price is not a viable option. Since it is not feasible on its part to influence the prices of the raw materials, it is left with the only option of trying to influence its man-power to increase its efficiency and as such facilitating better and higher production. It is further to be noted that man power is the only cost-of-production factor which can be effectively and hugely influenced with a little better supervision. Introduction Human man-power are the most important wealth of an organization. The success or failure of an organization greatly depends on the ability of the people working therein. Without positive and innovative contributions from humans, companies cannot progress. If an organization wants to achieve its goals, they need to recruit people with the necessary skills, qualifications and experience (Jackson Schuler, 1995, Sparrow, Paul, et al 2004)). Reflection and learning are explained through various models and theory in this assignment. ASSIGNMENT 1 When I am doing this project I was under the intuition that it is going to be another industry module where we will be showing to only abstract ideas. But I came to know that it is more about molding an individual into getting prepared to a organization career. It also helps us to consider how they may encounter different problems at different stages of their development There are four stages in Tuckmans model: forming, storming, norming and performing. In the first stage we read about forming. In this firstly the base level is established. In this stage the individuals are not yet gelled together and everybody is busy in finding their place in the team. Also the trust is developed between the team members in this stage. The third stage is norming. The members come together. They agrees about roles and processes for solving the problem. We can say it is the characteristic of togetherness. Decisions are made through negotiation and agreement building. The team is engaged in various activities. The final stage is performing. Members find solutions to problems using appropriate controls. They work collaboratively and care about each other. The group established as a unique identity and the members are interdependent and they have increased focus on the task. Co-ordinator The co-ordinator is a person-oriented leader. This person is trusting, accepting, dominant and is committed to team goals and objectives. The co-ordinator is a positive thinker who approves of goal attainment, struggle and effort in others. The co-ordinator is someone tolerant enough always to listen to others, but strong enough to reject their advice Shaper The shaper is a task-focused leader who abounds in nervous energy, who has a high motivation to achieve and for whom winning is the name of the game. The shaper is committed to achieving ends and will shape others into achieving the aims of the team. Plant The plant is a specialist idea maker characterised by high IQ and introversion while also being dominant and original. The plant tends to take radical approaches to team functioning and problems. Plants are more concerned with major issues than with details. Resource Investigator The resource investigator is the executive who is never in his room, and if he is, he is on the telephone. The resource investigator is someone who explores opportunities and develops contacts. Vark model The acronym VARK stands for Visual, Aural, Read/write, and Kinesthetic sensory modalities that are used for learning information. Fleming and Mills (1992) suggested four categories that seemed to reflect the experiences VARK learning style shows that I am a reading/writing preference learner followed by visual and kinesthetic learner. The visual and kinesthetic learner characteristics are similar to the outcome of both the Belbin and Honey Mumford theory. According to the Honey Mumford learning style, Belbins theory and VARK theory, I am indeed a person who learns better when theories and techniques are put into practice. I specifically prefer to learn from new experiences as well, making me a person who likes to do more physical and hands on activities compared to learning new modules through theories. For example, teaching and training materials are absorbed faster and effectively when I perform them through tutorial or lab activities.According to the VARK learning theory, I learn best when theories that are taught are absorbed via lectures and notes written from lectures according to personal preferences. For example, during lectures, I learn best when I write lecture notes and rewrite it over and over again. A reading and writing preference learner would translate diagrams and charts into their own words to learn betterf the students and teacher. Visual (V) This preference includes the depiction of information in maps, spider diagrams, charts, graphs, flow charts, labelled diagrams, and all the symbolic arrows, circles, hierarchies and other devices, that instructors use to represent what could have been presented in words. It could have been called Graphic (G) as that better explains what it covers. It does NOT include movies, videos or PowerPoint. It does include designs, whitespace, patterns, shapes and the different formats that are used to highlight and convey information. Kinaesthetic (K): By definition, this modality refers to the perceptual preference related to the use of experience and practice (simulated or real). Although such an experience may invoke other modalities, the key is that people who prefer this mode are connected to reality, either through concrete personal experiences, examples, practice or simulation [See Fleming Mills, 1992, pp. 140-141]. It includes demonstrations, simulations, videos and movies of real things, as well as case studies, practice and applications. AUDITORY-learners who would love to sit reverse and pay attention. They dont make a lot of notes READ/WRITE- learners who need to read the information for themselves and they take a set of notes CONCLUSSION VARK model proved that I m a KINESTHETIC learner. I can sit long for focussed on a particular topic. But other than KINESTHETIC i am a weak learner. And I feel that this is my weak point and I want to resolve it. Now i am trying to deliberate on a particular topic by sitting actively like a visual learner. Now i am concentrating on the reading/writing part by reading more and more books and different journals or assignments. But I feel that kinesthetic is not an actual style which should be learned because kinesthetic is a person who cannot concentrate much more so I did not belong to it. I strongly believe that i should expand that particular learning theory along with the rest that I already practice. As a group member we should create some new ideas all the time and these ideas can be practical or theoretical. From Honey Mumford theory I came to know that I m a activist so I decided to learn the other learning styles that the VARK assessment showed as I do not see any harm in lear ning new theoretical modules. I actually feel that with this module we will develop our skills, knowledge, training and many more. We know our value and importance in a group. Dante's Inferno It was sometime in the middle of the 17th century that British cleric Thomas Fuller wrote, "He that falls into sin is a man; that grieves at it, is a saint; that boasteth of it, is a devil." If Fuller was right, where does one place Dante, the pilgrim who bravely wandered where no man had wandered before? Certainly, the sojourner precisely written by the poet of the same name was a man. Certainly, also, he repented his sinful ways (how could one not after braving not only the depths of Hell but later the stretches of Purgatory and the "many waters" of Heaven?), but he was no saint. Indeed, Inferno itself can be easily construed as a boast of sortsââ¬âmade it through hell, met Lucifer, bought the t-shirt. But in reality, the book is much more subtle, and the journey much more enlightening to readers as one watches Dante, an Everyman if ever there was one, change his thought processes even as foot passes foot on his journey downward. When examining just what type of man Dante the poet was, it's important to note the society of the times. To be from Italyâ⬠¦or, even more specifically, from Florenceâ⬠¦was an important distinction. Even today, Italy is a center of religion. In 1330, Italy was not only a Catholic Mecca but a republican haven. Dante the poet was not the only citizen of the city to gain distinctionââ¬âMichelangelo, Raphael, and da Vinci all proudly added "Florentine" under their signatures. Additionally, Pope Gregory XI would find the city sinful enough to excommunicate the entire place forty-six short years later. Living in such a tumultuous and dynamic atmosphere, it was no wonder that Dante the poet, already in exile, would place his literary counterpart (for clearly the pilgrim is ss otherwise specified... ...e progress of the pilgrim from a sinner, sympathetic even to those condemned by God, to that of a saint of sorts, vindictive and scornful of the enemies of the church. The presence of the two further episodes of Dante the poet's Divine Comedy (Purgatorio and Paradiso) indicates that the pilgrim's spiritual education is not complete, but he has learned a great deal throughout his journey throughout hellââ¬âarising from the subterranean with less moral confusion and a greater sense of God-fearing reverence. For 14th century Italy, the alternative was more than a personality flawâ⬠¦it was a stigma. The poet, alone and in exile, had taken truly to heart and to paper the words that his Romantic counterpart Percy Shelley (a man who would be called to Italy himself time and time again) would write nearly 500 years later: "The great instrument of moral good is the imagination."

International Politics Paper On September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center in New York City was destroyed by terrorists. They flew two hijacked planes into the towers and in to the Pentagon. To counter this serious threat, the United States led a NATO raid against Afghanistan. This was called the "Global War on Terror". NATO forces began to pick apart the area to find Osama Bin Laden and the terrorist group known as Al-Qaeda. Former President George W. Bush had a realist approach in dealing with the ââ¬Å"War on Terrorâ⬠. This political idea means that the government is taking the nationââ¬â¢s interest as priority instead of trying to maintain an ideal. A realist believes that human nature is bad and their core concerns are war and security. Realists also think about how vulnerable, self-interested states survive in an environment where they are uncertain about the intentions and capabilities of others. This ideal believes that States are the only key actors in the international system. Anarchy, self-help, national interests, relative gains, and balance of power are the central concepts of realism. A realists approach to peace is to protect sovereign autonomy and deter rivals through military preparedness and alliances. Their global outlook is pessimistic because the great powers are locked in a relentless security competition. In using this type of approach, President Bush was striving to illustrate Americaââ¬â¢s dominance. Arthur Miller also creates tension through the use of short sharp sentences through the scene as well as the repetition of key phrases during the scene, eg) when Katherine says ââ¬Å"I think I canââ¬â¢t stay here no moreâ⬠when Eddie says ââ¬Å"You aint goinââ¬â¢ nowheresâ⬠after that Katherine says: ââ¬Å"Eddie Iââ¬â¢m not gonna be a baby anymoreâ⬠these are all extremely short sentences used within quick succession. The use of short sentences like this is to heighten the drama by showing the views that the characters are in an angry and aggressive as mood well as showing Katherineââ¬â¢s new fear of Eddie and that something is inevitably going to happen. Certain unexpected key events occur in this scene, which shock the audience and create a heightened dramatic impact. This is when Eddie ââ¬Å"reaches out suddenly, draws her to him, as she strives to free herself he kisses her on the mouthâ⬠then Rodolpho tells Eddie ââ¬Å"have respect for herâ⬠after that: ââ¬Å"Rodolpho flies at him in attack. Eddie pins his arms, laughing and suddenly kisses him. This shows that Eddieââ¬â¢s feelings for Katherine are so powerful that they are uncontrollable; this causes the audience to be shocked and lose respect for Eddie. As well as these happenings, emotions are revealed in this scene, which heightens the tension. This is shown best by Katherineââ¬â¢s fear of Eddie because she usually shows such admiration for Eddie. Eddie crying is also eddy showing emotion ââ¬Å"Eddie strands of tears rolling down his face as h laughs mockingly at Rodolpho. â⬠While Katherine ââ¬Å"is staring at him in horrorâ⬠Katherine and Rodolpho are also behaving ââ¬Å"out of characterâ⬠by showing disrespect towards Eddie. Katherine usually acts childish towards him as if Eddie really is her father; and Rodolpho is usually trying to avoid conflict with Eddie as well as trying to win Eddies approval over Katherine Craig young 11vk The mix of violence, humiliation and control in this scene all help to create dramatic impact. This is shown when Rodolpho is violent towards Eddie ââ¬Å"Rodolpho flies at him in attack. â⬠This shows the audience how Rodolpho has changed his attitude towards Eddie. Eddie shows control by forcibly kissing Katherine and then Rodolpho. Eddie does this to show his authority over Katherine and Rodolpho, and to degrade Rodolpho by showing that he has control over him. Further more proving that, Eddie is stronger than Rodolpho. In conclusion the contrast between the events with Eddie and Katherine and the mood of Alferiââ¬â¢s speech at the end of the scene, also creates a sense of tension; due to the contrast between the short sharp aggressive sentences earlier on in the scene then when Alferi speaks there becomes longer calmer sentences, this contrast creates a sense of tension by making the audience think that something more is going to happen. As well as this a part of Alferiââ¬â¢s speech makes the audience realise that something terrible was inevitably going to happen ââ¬Å"but I will never forget how dark the room came when he looked at me; his eyes were tunnels. I kept wanting to call the police, but nothing had happened. Nothing at all had really happened. â⬠This shows that Alferi had the feeling that something had already happened so it seems almost certain that something would happen. A View from a Bridge by Arthur Miller Essay There are several factors which lead to Eddieââ¬â¢s eventual decline. The main ones were things like the influence of the society, influence of the people around him and ultimately himself highlighting his unwillingness to negotiate and his excessively close relationship with Catherine. Nearly all the characters in the story were responsible for Eddieââ¬â¢s eventual downfall. In page 39, Catherine says: ââ¬Å"You wanna dance Rodolfo? â⬠At this point Eddie freezes in obvious disapproval. Rodolfo senses that Eddie is unhappy about her dancing with him so Rodolfo replies: ââ¬Å"No, I-Iââ¬â¢m tiredâ⬠in defense to Eddie. Beatrice makes things worse by saying: ââ¬Å"Go ahead, dance, Rodolfoâ⬠. Eddie particularly didnââ¬â¢t like the fact the Catherine had put on high heels in the house, just to make a good impression on a young man (Rodolfo) before the dancing incident. Eddie says: ââ¬Å"Whatââ¬â¢s the high heels for Garbo? â⬠Alfieri is also to blame for the death of Eddie. In page 58-59, Alfieri and Marco have a lengthy conversation. Alfieri tries to get Marco to promise that he wouldnââ¬â¢t take matters in his own hands but Alfieri didnââ¬â¢t succeed. Alfieri says: ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m waiting, Marco, what do you say? â⬠then further onwards Rodolfo says: ââ¬Å"Marco, tell the manâ⬠Marco replies: ââ¬Å"He knows such a promise is dishonorableâ⬠Marco clearly has pride for himself which he feels that he could lose. Alfieri then promises that Marco will not harm Eddie on behalf of him but this promise was outwardly unsecure. Eddieââ¬â¢s attempt to always be the man of the house was a factor leading to his breakdown. Eddieââ¬â¢s Sicilian background inter links with his 1950ââ¬â¢s notions of manhood because it meant that he had to be very manly and be the one who goes off to work. Eddie shows his manliness when he starts to be competitive with Marco and Rodolfo for instance when he starts to teach him Boxing. Eddie says: â⬠well come on , Iââ¬â¢ll teach youâ⬠and then when Marco showed Eddie that he could pick up a chair with one hand, Eddie looked grumpy because he couldnââ¬â¢t do it, he felt like he was beaten. Many people look up to Eddie and he knows it which is a cause to his downfall. In page 25 Louis says: ââ¬Å"Believe me, Eddie; you got a lotta credit cominââ¬â¢ to youâ⬠. Eddies neighborhood motivates him a lot because he is so concerned about his respect in the neighborhood he forgets about what he is doing to the people close to him. This is shown when at the final scene he kept on demanding respect. Eddie says: â⬠wipin the neighborhood with my name like dirty rag ; I want my name back Marco , now gimme my name and we go together to the weddingâ⬠. As a result of this Eddie died.
